Parenting during the adolescent years can be a challenging time. It can also be deeply rewarding and lead to a lasting and meaningful relationship into adulthood.
When a child is struggling of a family is going through a period of transition or crisis, parents are often unsure how to help and support their teenager. You may feel anxious about your child’s wellbeing, or your own, and unclear how to move forward.
I offer therapeutic support to parents who are looking for support in helping their child. Common themes include
- Supporting parents during transitions (eg illness, separation and divorce, relocation, bereavement)
- managing risk: self harm, aggression or escalating conflict
- understanding adolescent development and managing expectations
- strengthening communication and connection
- navigating intense emotions
- supporting teens with anxiety, low mood or emotional withdrawal
- screen time, friendship and peer relationships
- problems with school attendance, school-related stress and education-related concerns
- considering questions around neurodiversity, including how to navigate different needs or pressure from school.
- worry about drug or alcohol use or uncertainty around how to respond to risky behaviours
